Battle 2 Recap

New overall totals scores after battle 2: Union Ridge-137, St. Monica White-124, St. Eugene-123, St. Monica Blue-115, Pennoyer-105, Giles-99, Leigh-97Congratulations go to the teams for a well played Battle 2. Overall, scores remain very close, which will make the next few Battles quite exciting. Be sure to look over any books your team might be struggling to answer questions for so that you don't miss out on the opportunities for more points.

No points were given for challenges made in Battle 1. Challenges to questions made in Battle 2 are being evaluated. If points are awarded, they will be added to Battle 3's scores.

A word of caution: warning eggs were given out last week. With the scores remaining very tight, do not run the risk of losing points. Make sure your team volume remains at Battle level, and each teammate exhibits sportsmanlike conduct not only to other teams, but with your fellow team members as well.

Battle 1 Recap

Battle 1 scores: Union Ridge-68, St. Eugene-61, St. Monica White-58, St. Monica Blue-51, Giles-50, Pennoyer-43, Leigh-40We are off to a very promising start. with only 28 points between the first an last place team, all team's have the potential to take first place. Congratulations to all battle players.

The scores from Battle 1 will be added to the scores from the upcoming Battles. It is the highest overall total from all five battles that will take back to their school the first place trophy.

There were 4 challenges made in round 2 of Battle 1. The questions and answers will be looked at closely. Any additional points awarded will be added to the Battle 2 scores.

Practice Battle Scores

Practice Battle Scores: St. Monica Blue-39; Pennoyer-37; Union Ridge-35; St. Eugene-34; Giles-29; St. Monica White-26; Leigh-18Congratulations to all the teams for a well done Practice Battle. St. Monica Blue took the lead but was followed very closely by the rest of the teams.

As you know, these points don't matter, and next week the slate will be wiped clean. From then on, each week the scores will add together and winning team after Battle 5 will have the highest overall score.

Ready or Not, Here We Go!

Is Your School Battle Ready? Eisenhower Public Library District's Battle of the Books begins 2.17.2016. Battle Schedule

The finalized dates for the 2015-2016 Battle Season are as follows:

  •     Practice Battle: February 17th, 4:00pm
  •     Battle 1: February 24th, 4:00pm
  •     Battle 2: March 2nd, 4:00pm
  •     Battle 3: March 9th, 4:00pm
  •     Battle 4: March 16th, 4:00pm
  •     Battle 5: March 23rd, 4:00pm
  •     Battle Awards Ceremony: April 6th, 4:00pm

Please keep in mind, these dates only reflect the Battle of the Books events held here at the Library. Your school team may meet throughout the year at your school. See your Battle Coach for those dates.

Results of the Kids' Votes

Your votes have been tallied and counted.

Thank you to everyone for submiting such great ideas. However, only one lucky book gets to be named as the Kids' Pick. The book to get the most votes is Pet War by Allan Woodrow.

Your vote for the returning titles have also been counted. The books to come back for a second round are: The Bully Book by Gale, The BFG by Dahl, Hoot by Hiaasen, and Counting by 7s by Sloan.

We are still receiving each school's submissions. We are doing our best to have the complete Battle of the Books reading list will be out in time for summer reading.

This officially concludes this year's Battle Season.

We are starting to prep for next year. Hopefully, the new Battle of the Book list will be out in time for summer reading. (We are crossing our fingers for luck.) Check back soon.

A Giant thanks to all the participants, parents, and coaches for a really great year!

Battle 5: Final Scores

Battle 5 Scores: Pennoyer-66/301 , St Monica Blue-63/296 , St Monica White-66/279 , Union Ridge-61/260 , St Eugene-66/246 , Leigh-51/232 , Giles-38/187Pennoyer has won Battle of the Books for the third year in a row with only a five point lead over St. Monica Blue. Third place goes to St. Monica White.

This was an especially close battle. Congratulations goes to all of the teams and coaches for their hard work.

Promptly at 4:00pm next Wednesday, our Battle Ceremony will begin. Trophies will be handed out and author, Alan Woodrow, will speak about being a published writer. Afterwards, we'll dine on pizza while Alan Woodrow signs books or your Battle Certificate of Participation.

The voting ballots for the Kids Choice book are in and being tallied. Remember, each school gets to choose two books for next year's battle season. Be sure to talk to your coach about the kind of books you'd like to read. Your opinion matters!
