Battle of the Books

February 6th,
4:00pm to 5:00pm
Battle of the Books challenges students in grades four through six to become familiar with literature. Comprehension and retention are put to the test in a Jeopardy style battle between the teams.

Area schools create their own teams and gather at the library to compete in a five-week battle on questions derived from selected books. See your school's Battle Coach to sign up.

You Push the Button, We Do the Rest: George Eastman and the Brownie Camera

In 1900 Eastman's Brownie camera cost $1.00 and was taken everywhere from the Titanic rescue ship the Carpathia to Peary's Arctic expedition to the trenches of World War I. R J Lindsey will be George Eastman, talking about his camera and showing his pictures, including his 1903 cross-country road trip selfies

Registration begins May 6 for Norridge and Harwood Heights residents with valid library cards. All others may register beginning May 13.

Money Smart Week: Wills and Trusts

Attorney Jacob K. Ehrensaft discusses wills, trusts, powers of attorney, probate and guardianship. Take the first step toward a plan to protect your final wishes.

Tromp l'oeil: Fool the Eye

Professor Emeritus Robert Munman presentsThe art of "trompe l'oeil" - French for "fool the eye" - which has been around since antiquity and continues to beguile and entertain its audiences today. Like the best illusions of a magic show, artistic "trompe l'oeil" effects can convince the observer that the false is real or the real is false. How much can your eye be fooled?

Kids Yoga

January 17th,
4:00pm to 5:00pm
Ages 8-12. Registration Required

Enjoy Yoga at the library with a registered yoga teacher. This program focuses on yoga and integrative learning with storytelling. Yoga mats are provided.

Registration starts November 5th for Norridge and Harwood Heights residents with valid library cards. Online registration for everyone starts November 12th. Priority for Kids programs goes to Norridge and Harwood Heights residents.
