A lot has happened since 1989 when we first published Island Within A City, a history of the Norridge-Harwood Heights area written by Thomas McGowen. So in recognition of the books 30th anniversary, were planning a new edition, but well need your help.
On Saturday, April 6th, please join us for a fundraising gala. Hosted by the Friends of the Eisenhower Library, the gala will be your opportunity to experience the library after hours and tell your stories of life in the Norridge-Harwood Heights communities.
Enjoy food and wine from restaurants reflecting the cultural diversity of our community.
Record your family history and local anecdotes at oral history recording stations. Your stories will be available to listen to on the library's website and some might be included in the updated book.
Bring up to ten historical photographs or documents to be scanned for your records and possible inclusion in Eisenhower's local history collection.
For fun, puzzle your way through Escape to the Island, an immersive escape room game made up of riddles and brainteasers, or follow clues throughout the library collection to complete a scavenger hunt.
All of these activities, along with food and drink, are included with your $50.00
ticket. A $75.00
ticket will also include a preorder of the new edition of Island Within A City. Or just preorder the book for $30.00
As Joseph Patricelli, former President of the Eisenhower Library Board of Trustees said in the original book's forward, Ideas become realities through the efforts of peoples' special interest and dedication. With your interest and dedication, past, present, and future residents will come to better understand the history of our community.
