DEFINITION:
| Interlibrary loans are transactions in which library materials are loaned from one library to another. Eisenhower Library endorses the ILLINET Interlibrary Loan Code. |
LENDING POLICY:
REQUESTS:
| All in-state requests may be submitted on an ALA form (or equivalent) by mail, fax, through the MLS/ILDS delivery system, and via OCLC.
All out-of-state requests should be submitted to Metropolitan Library System. Out-of-state OCLC requests should be referred to IED.
Rush requests by telephone must be accompanied by a requesting fax after item availability has been confirmed.
As a lender, Eisenhower Library shall search, locate, send, reply or cancel all ILL requests within four working days of receipt. Eisenhower Library reviews the OCLC message file within 48 hours and replies to every request within 4 days.
Loans will be sent via MLS/ILDS delivery.
Charges: Loans are free to Illinet libraries. |
MATERIALS LOANED:
| Books, Periodicals, Compact discs, Audiobooks, Videos. |
MATERIALS RESTRICTED FOR ILL:
| Reference materials are available for loan at the discretion of the Reference librarian. We do not loan newspapers, microfilm, microfiche, or current month periodicals. |
RENEWAL:
| 14 days if item has no other reserves.
1 renewal only. |
LOST AND DAMAGED MATERIALS:
| The borrowing library will be charged the replacement cost plus a $5.00 processing fee. |
PHOTOCOPY REQUESTS:
| The requesting library is responsible for copyright law compliance.
Express Service requests needed within 24 hours must be preceded by a phone call. Express requests should not exceed 15 pages and will be supplied via fax.
Non-express photocopy requests will be supplied by fax, by ILDS delivery, or by mail within state. Non-express photocopy requests exceeding 15 pages will be supplied by ILDS delivery or by mail.
Requests will be filled within 4 working days of receipt.
Charges: There is no charge for faxes or photocopies. |

| Any material regardless of format can be requested. |
IN-SYSTEM REQUESTS:
| In-system requests are for those materials owned within the Metropolitan Library System.
Loan requests will be accepted from any Metropolitan Library System public library cardholder, and from any Illinois public library cardholder having reciprocal borrowing privileges with Eisenhower Library. |
HOW TO REQUEST:
| Eisenhower library cardholders can access the library's online catalog via the Internet or at the library's public access terminal and directly place their own requests. orRequests will be accepted at the Reference Desk in person or by telephone. orFill out a pink RESERVE REQUEST card and give it to the Circulation Desk or Reference Desk.

OUT-OF-SYSTEM REQUESTS:
| Out of system requests are requests for materials not found within the Metropolitan Library System.
Out of system requests are accepted only from Eisenhower Library cardholders that are residents of Harwood Heights and Norridge. |
OUT-OF-STATE REQUESTS:
| Requests for materials that can't be located within state are submitted to the Metropolitan Library System Interlibrary Loan Department.
Out of state requests are accepted only from Eisenhower Library cardholders that are residents of Harwood Heights and Norridge.
FEE: There is a $3.00 fee assessed to the library for each item borrowed out of state. The library passes this fee on to the patron. An out of state loan will only be submitted if the patron has consented beforehand to pay this fee upon checkout of the item.
Any photocopy charges to the library will be passed on to the patron. |
ARRIVAL OF MATERIALS:
| Materials requested within system usually arrive within 3-5 working days. Materials from other systems or from out of state may take several weeks or longer. Newly published materials, materials with many reserves, and audiovisual materials may be difficult to borrow from other libraries. The library cannot guarantee how quickly materials will arrive. |
PATRON NOTIFICATION:
| When materials arrive, patrons are notified by telephone.
Patrons can also be notified by e-mail if they prefer. In order to be notified by e-mail, you must give your e-mail address to a circulation clerk so that it can be input into your computer record.
Material must be picked up within 5 working days of notification. Itemes not picked up in time will be returned to the loaning library. |
LOAN PERIOD:
| Loan periods are dictated by the loaning library.
Renewal requests may be done in person or by telephone.
Renewal of material is at the discretion of the loaning library.
All Interlibrary Loan materials checked out at Eisenhower Library must be returned to Eisenhower Library only and not to any other library. |
LATE RETURN OF MATERIALS:
| Overdue fees for materials within system are set by the loaning library.
Overdue fees for materials outside the system are $.15 per day per item. |
LOST OR DAMAGED MATERIAL:
| All charges for lost or damaged materials are set by the loaning library. The patron is responsible to pay these charges. |
