Thanksgiving Day Comes Again

N. Stewart

It was a difficult time
With everyone happy and joyful,
Centered on comfort and kin.

Roasted turkey, stuffing,
Mashed potatoes and
Cranberries abounded.

Here I sat at your bedside,
Waiting for your last breath
Before the silence that is forever.

Not today,
Maybe tomorrow,
But certainly very soon.

The turkey is dry, the wine bitter,
Stuffing and potatoes are cold,
Cranberries are too sweet.

The world will go on to celebrate,
But I don't. There is nothing,
That can make this better.

Thanksgiving's here again.
Many years have come and gone
Still that day and you remain in my thoughts.

I adorn a smile, not to disappoint,
And carry on, wishing for others a
Happy Thanksgiving Day.

September Eleven

David Rumer

In the summer of her life
she came to him,
lingering yet of springtime green.
Responsive love became a song
That haunted him as day begat the night

Love's passion shared,
he could not know
caprice of fortune had ordained,
when fruit is gone
before the frost of winterset,
fate's claim must intercede.

Would that last breath
had spared him grief,
but, life's mosaic reigned supreme.
On alone, his soul cries out,
The legacy of love cannot
be empty solitude.
